Installation Notes

This is a permanent built-in unit for new construction or an existing wall. It needs its own 15A circuit (hardwire is standard; the plug kit is for 120V only and must not be used with an extension cord), a plumbed cold water line that is flushed before connection and primed before first use, and an unobstructed fresh air inlet under the unit. Dimplex states normal tap water is acceptable; in hard water areas use a softener and expect more frequent cleaning, and do not feed the unit with unfiltered well water. The unit is not watertight: keep it away from tubs and showers and use a GFCI circuit in bathrooms. Because it is electric and makes no combustion byproducts, it needs no flue or vent, which makes it a practical way to put a linear flame in a New York City apartment or townhouse; confirm electrical and plumbing work with your building. Dimplex 2-year limited warranty with in-home parts and service for the original purchaser (travel charges may apply beyond 30 miles from a service provider). The CDFIPLUMB-KIT carries a 1-year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Optimyst Linear 46 have to be plumbed?

Dimplex designs it for a continuous cold water connection with 1/4" tubing. A refillable container is available for occasional use, but Dimplex does not recommend it for frequent operation and the front glass and media tray must be removed to refill it.

Can I run the flame without heat in summer?

Yes. The heater is independent of the flame. Flame-only draws about 520 W, and the heater can be switched off from the remote or the app.

Can it go under a TV?

Yes, with the heater positioned per the manual and the TV manufacturer's heat clearance respected. Because the flame is cool mist, the television sees far less heat than it would above a gas unit. Mount the fireplace so its bottom edge is 5" to 50" off the floor.

Is 120V or 240V better?

Both run the flame identically. 240V gives 1,920 W of heat versus 1,220 W at 120V. If you only want ambiance, 120V with the plug kit is the simplest install.
