The Dimplex Ignite Quest QST42 is a 42 inch built-in electric fireplace with the Multi-Fire flame effect, a glowing loose log set and a pulsating ember bed. It burns no fuel, needs no chimney or gas line, and fits a framed opening in a living room, bedroom or apartment where a gas fireplace is not an option.
It heats with a fan-forced Comfort$aver heater that can be turned off or permanently disabled, so you can run the flames year round. Plug it in at 120 V with the included plug kit, or hardwire it at 120 V or 240 V.

What Is Included and What You Will Need
- Included (per manual): 11 logs, reflective glass with bracket, light shield, front glass and two side glasses, tumbled glass embers, gravel and glass chunks, sill trim, kick plate, top grille, remote with wall mount and batteries, plug kit, hardware kit and the user and installation guide
- Required: a framed opening to the dimensions above and a 120 V or 240 V supply; the manual calls for a dedicated minimum 15 amp circuit
- Optional: the Left/Right Bay Trim Kit (Dimplex 500005394), selectable on this page, which is needed for bay or corner installations
Installation Notes
This is an electric appliance with no gas or vent, so installation is a framing, electrical and finishing job. Frame the opening to the dimensions above, make the 120 V or 240 V connection per the manual, and have a licensed electrician do the final connection where required. Two or more people are needed to lift the unit. Do not use an extension cord. If it is installed in a bathroom it must be on a GFCI receptacle or circuit. Does it heat a room?
It provides supplemental heat: 5,118 BTU at 120 V or 8,530 BTU at 240 V. You can also turn the heater off and enjoy the flames alone.
Can I plug it in?
At 120 V you can use the plug kit in the box. A 240 V installation must be hardwired, and extension cords are not permitted.
Can I put a TV above it?
Surfaces 10 inches above the unit stay at or below 40 C in normal heat mode with the heater inlet and outlet clear. Follow the TV maker's heat limit and keep the top of the unit at least 24 inches below the ceiling.
Can it go in a corner or bay?
Yes, with the optional Left/Right Bay Trim Kit. Without it, the unit installs front facing in a recessed opening.

Warranty
Per the Dimplex manual: five-year limited warranty on the Ignite Quest fireplace, including in-home parts and service. Trims and accessory packages are excluded.
