The Osburn Matrix is an EPA certified wood-burning insert with a cast iron framed glass door and a wide, sleek face. It has a 2.4 cubic foot firebox, an included blower and a steel faceplate already installed, and it is meant for a masonry fireplace that needs a real heat source. Optional backing kits close the gap between the insert and a larger opening.

What Is Included and What You Will Need

  • Included per the installation manual: insert with a steel faceplate installed, blower, air control wooden handle and glass door assembly.
  • Required: a continuous 6 inch liner to the top of the chimney. The listing offers 25 ft and 35 ft kits as an option, or your installer can supply one.
  • Optional: faceplate backing kits (AC01322 and AC01332), projection kit AC01323, fresh air intake kit AC01298, rigid fire screen AC01315, log retainers, liner offset adapter and liner fastening system. The backing and projection kits are selectable on this listing.

Installation Notes

The manual requires a qualified installer, a code-compliant liner and non-combustible floor protection in front of the insert. Wood burning in New York City is regulated: Local Law 38 of 2015 limits new solid fuel fireplaces and the Air Pollution Control Code governs what can be burned, so confirm the rules for your address before you order. Book a consultation and we will measure the opening and review local requirements with you.

What fireplace opening does the Matrix need?

The listing gives a minimum opening of 28-7/8 inches wide, 23-3/8 inches high and 19-5/8 inches deep, with a maximum surround thickness of 5 inches. Add at least 4 inches to the width if you use a fresh air intake. Confirm against the manual before ordering.

Does it come with a blower and faceplate?

Osburn's Limited Lifetime Warranty covers combustion chamber welds and the cast iron door frame for life (5 years labor), ceramic glass and plating for life (parts only), surrounds, heat shields, baffle and secondary air tubes for 7 years (parts only), the blower and electronics for 2 years parts and 1 year labor, and paint, gaskets, insulation and refractory bricks for 1 year.
