Installation Notes

Install per the Superior manual: 42 in. from the top of the opening to the ceiling, 1-1/2 in. from the sides and back of the firebox, and 36 in. in front to curtains and furniture. The manual allows outdoor use with walls on all sides and no overhead cover, a partial enclosure with limited side walls, or overhead cover with at least 30 percent of the perimeter permanently open. Do not burn wood in this firebox. This is an outdoor-only vent-free system, and the approval path in New York City must be confirmed before you buy: the NYC Fuel Gas Code and Department of Buildings rules govern outdoor gas appliances. Talk it through in a fireplace consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the firebox include a burner?

No. It is the enclosure. Superior calls for an outdoor vent-free gas log set listed to ANSI Z21.97, sold separately.

Can I burn wood in it?

No. The manual says not to use the firebox for wood fires. Superior makes a separate wood-burning outdoor line.

Can I use it indoors?

No. This is an outdoor application only and must follow the outdoor enclosure rules in the manual.

Do I need a hood?

The manual calls for a firebox hood and a wire mesh screen at all times for the outdoor application.
