The Viking VIJ5421 insulated jacket is the enclosure Viking requires to build a Viking 5 Series 42 in. built-in grill (VQGI5420) into an island framed with combustible materials. The grill manual is direct about it: never install the grill in a combustible enclosure without an insulated jacket.
The stainless steel jacket wraps the grill body and sets the island opening at 48 in. wide, 11-5/8 in. high and 26-1/2 in. deep. Some assembly is required, and the jacket must be supported from below by a ledge on each side or a full deck.

Installation Notes
Frame the opening 48 in. wide, 11-5/8 in. high and 26-1/2 in. deep, build ledges or a deck to support the jacket from below, and add ventilation openings to the enclosure as the manual directs. Keep 12 in. from combustible construction at the sides and back below the counter and 18 in. above it. In New York City, gas grills on terraces and rooftops are regulated by the FDNY and the Department of Buildings, gas piping must be run by a licensed master plumber, and propane cylinder use is heavily restricted, so we review the space before quoting. Book a design consultation to plan the island, gas line and clearances.
