The Majestic Designer See-Through 42 (DSR42) is a factory-built, double-sided wood-burning fireplace with a 42 in. x 23 in. opening on both faces. It is built for a room divider or open plan where one real wood fire should be seen from two spaces, with refractory-lined firebox, grate and firescreens supplied and an SL1100 chimney above. It is a strong choice for homes outside New York City that want a true wood fire without building a masonry fireplace.

Installation Notes

Install with the Majestic SL1100 chimney, non-combustible hearth extensions on both sides and the clearances in the DSR42 installation manual. A qualified hearth installer should plan framing, chimney height and outside air before construction. New York City does not permit new wood-burning fireplaces (Local Law 38 of 2015, effective May 6, 2016); we sell this model for installations outside the five boroughs where local code allows it. Frequently Asked Questions

Can the DSR42 be installed in New York City?

No. New wood-burning fireplaces are not permitted in the five boroughs. It can be installed where local code allows wood burning, such as many Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey towns.

What chimney does it use?

Majestic specifies the SL1100 series chimney with a termination cap. Minimum straight height is 14 ft and maximum is 90 ft.

Does it need a hearth on both sides?

Yes. As a see-through unit it needs a non-combustible hearth extension in front of each opening, sized per the installation manual.

Can I burn gas logs in it?

The manual allows a certified gas log lighter or decorative gas log set with a gas shutoff, and the damper must be locked fully open with gas logs.

Warranty

Hearth & Home Technologies limited warranty (owner's manual 4012-135): for wood appliances, firebox and heat exchanger, castings and HHT chimney components are covered 10 years parts with 3 years labor, cement refractory panels 2 years, and all other parts 1 year. Purchased replacement parts and optional accessories are covered 1 year. Purchase from an authorized dealer is required.
