Installation Notes

The manual calls for 1/2 inch clearance at the sides and rear, 36 inches to the front, 32 inches to the ceiling, and a hard metal or wood floor across the full footprint. Rear venting needs an added 12 inches of framing for a 90 degree elbow. Gas and venting must be installed by a licensed professional. In New York City, a direct vent gas fireplace requires permits and must meet the NYC Fuel Gas Code. Schedule a consultation and we will confirm venting and framing before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Meridian Platinum 42 natural gas or propane?

Both. The natural gas model is MER42PN and the propane model is MER42PL; choose the fuel option when you order.

Can it vent out the back?

Yes. The manual allows rear venting with a 45 degree elbow or a vertical termination, with added framing depth for the elbow.

Does it work without power?

It needs a 110 to 120 VAC supply, and the battery backup lets the IntelliFire Touch system keep operating during a power outage.
