The Montigo Divine Outdoor H42VO is a 42 in. class single-sided gas fireplace made for patios, terraces and covered outdoor rooms. It is a ventless outdoor unit with a traditional log set, so it needs no chimney or vent run, and you can dress the firebox with a standard back panel, one of three brick liners or a mirrored panel. At 40,000 BTU/h on natural gas or propane, with your choice of standing pilot or hot surface ignition, it is a real focal point for an outdoor kitchen, pool surround or covered living space.

Installation Notes

This is an outdoor-only appliance. Never install or operate it in a home, garage, tent or any enclosed space, because it produces carbon monoxide. Frame it with non-combustible facing, keep the 36 in. ceiling clearance and 12 in. mantel clearance, and plan water drainage for both in-wall and freestanding enclosures. For New York City addresses, outdoor gas fireplaces and their piping fall under the NYC Fuel Gas Code and Department of Buildings permitting, so the approval path for a ventless unit must be confirmed before you buy. We review that, along with Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey sites, during a fireplace design consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the H42VO be installed in New York City?

It is certified for outdoor use only, and any NYC installation of an outdoor gas fireplace must clear the NYC Fuel Gas Code and Department of Buildings process. Confirm the approval path for your property with us and a licensed master plumber before ordering.

Standing pilot or HSI?

The standing pilot version runs on a millivolt valve and wall switch with no household power. The HSI version lights electronically and needs a GFCI-protected outlet at the fireplace.

Which fuel does it use?

Either natural gas or propane at 40,000 BTU/h. The fuel is selected as an option and set for the gas you order.

Do I need the drain pan?

Montigo recommends planning drainage for both in-wall and freestanding installs. The optional drain pan (ODSSP42) is recommended for uncovered installations; confirm your enclosure drains water away from the base.

Warranty

Montigo Residential Warranty Program, which lists Divine Outdoor: firebox, heat exchanger and main burner are covered for 15 years with 1 year of labor. Gas valve and control components, electrical components, firebox media, thermal glass breakage, finishes, refractory and safety barriers are covered for 1 year, parts and labor. Coverage applies to installations in the United States and Canada and requires installation by a licensed professional in line with the manual. Montigo's warranty terms require the fireplace to be purchased, installed and serviced annually by an authorized Montigo dealer for coverage to remain valid.
