The Superior WRE4550 is the 50-inch model in the WRE4500 series of factory-built wood-burning fireplaces, made for outdoor living rooms, covered patios and poolside walls where a real wood fire is the point. A 50 in. wide by 30 in. tall opening, full brick-to-face refractory with no visible sheet metal and a massive smoke dome give it the look and draw of a masonry fireplace, while the stainless steel construction and fully insulated firebox are built for outdoor exposure. It is also listed for indoor installation.
NYC note: New wood-burning fireplaces cannot be installed in New York City under Local Law 38 of 2015, and the city also restricts open wood burning outdoors. We sell the WRE4550 for installations outside the five boroughs, such as Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey and Florida, where local code allows it.

Installation Notes
Frame the WRE4550 to 59-3/4 in. W x 67-1/8 in. H x 30-1/8 in. D, maintain the published clearances, and build a 74 in. x 20 in. noncombustible hearth extension. Outdoors the chimney must reach at least 9.5 ft from the base of the fireplace, with at least 4 ft of chimney pipe. Combustible mantels must stay within the mantel chart in the spec sheet. A building permit and chimney inspection are typically required, and installation should be done by a qualified hearth installer. This fireplace cannot be installed in New York City (Local Law 38 of 2015); for other areas, confirm local wood-burning rules first. For a real flame in the city, ask about outdoor gas fireplaces during a design consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install the WRE4550 indoors?
Yes. Superior lists it as a UL 127 factory-built fireplace with chimney height rules for both residential and outdoor installations. Indoors, the chimney must be at least 16 ft tall.
Can I put gas logs in it later?
Yes. The manual approves vented gas logs listed to ANSI Z21.60 or Z21.84 and vent-free gas log heaters listed to ANSI Z21.11.2. Vent-free gas logs cannot be used in New York City.
Is it legal in New York City?
No. New wood-burning fireplaces are prohibited in the five boroughs under Local Law 38 of 2015. We sell this model for homes outside the city.
What is the difference between WS and WH?
Only the refractory pattern: WS is white stacked brick and WH is white herringbone brick.

Warranty
IHP (Superior) 20 Year Limited Warranty: the body, firebox and ceramic glass (thermal breakage) are covered for 20 years. Fireplace screens, refractory and side shields are covered for two years (hairline cracks excluded); air tubes, baffles, brick retainers, cast iron parts, electrical components and gaskets for one year; fuel grates for 90 days against defects. IHP pays its prevailing labor rates for covered repairs for up to five years. Vent components, trim, paint and stains are excluded.
