The Hargrove Olde World 19 in vented basket is a European-style fire basket for a small working wood-burning fireplace, as shallow as 10 in deep, with either refractory logs or glowing coals over a burner with a factory-installed standing safety pilot. The valve hides behind the basket, so the fire looks like a traditional grate.

What Is Included and What You Will Need

  • You will need: a working, code-compliant wood-burning fireplace at least 22 in wide, 10 in deep and 16 in high, a gas supply of the correct type, a damper stop, a fire screen, and a qualified gas installer

Installation Notes

Hargrove vented gas logs burn like wood with a yellow, smoky flame, so they may only be used in a fully vented, non-combustible wood-burning fireplace with the damper open and the chimney clear. Install the supplied damper stop (or a permanent one) so the damper can never close fully, keep glass doors fully open while the set operates, and use a fire screen. Installation must be done by a qualified gas installer.

In New York City, a vented gas log set goes into a working, code-compliant wood-burning fireplace and chimney, and the gas connection must be made by a licensed master plumber under permit. Have the chimney inspected first; Hargrove requires the damper to stay fixed open whenever the set is installed.

Logs or coals?

Both use the same 19 in basket and burner; choose the full set with logs for a wood fire look or with coals for a coal fire look.

How small a fireplace will it fit?

Does it need a chimney?

Yes. It is a vented set for a working wood-burning fireplace, and the damper must stay fixed open.

Can it go in an NYC apartment?

Only in a working wood-burning fireplace that meets code, installed under permit by a licensed master plumber.

Warranty

Hargrove gives a limited lifetime warranty on the logs against manufacturing defects or breakage, five (5) years on the burner and grate, and two (2) years on valves, remote controls, switching devices and all other parts, from the verified purchase date.
