The Warming Trends Mercury Ignition System (MERC) adds push-button spark lighting and a flame safety shutoff to a CROSSFIRE gas fire pit without running electrical power to the fire feature. If the flame goes out unexpectedly, the system automatically shuts off the gas, then resets easily so you can relight. It runs on a single AA battery, handles burners up to 240,000 BTU, and is a practical way to meet code or insurance requirements for flame supervision on an outdoor fire feature.

Installation Notes

Install to local codes, or the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 where none apply. Mount the pilot assembly through the matching knockout on the plate or pan, keep media from covering more than half of the pilot assembly or wind cage, and keep logs away from the pilot. To light: hold the control knob in at Pilot, press the ignition button until the pilot lights, keep holding the knob for 30 seconds, then turn to the flame height you want. A licensed gas professional should make the connection and leak test.

In New York City, outdoor gas fire features and their gas piping fall under the NYC Fuel Gas Code and Department of Buildings permitting, and propane at residences is restricted by the NYC Fire Code, so confirm the approval path before you build.

Warranty

Warming Trends warrants Mercury Ignition Systems for 3 years from date of purchase on residential installations and 1 year on commercial installations; the ignition warranty does not cover labor, and problems caused by gas plumbing or electrical work installed by others are not covered (June 2026 manual). Burners carry a separate full lifetime warranty.
