Description

Overall Dimensions: blower 25 in. x 30-13/16 in. x 12-3/4 in.; 10 in. round duct (Viking DEV15001 installation instructions)

The Viking DEV15001 is a 1,500 CFM exterior mounted power ventilator: the blower sits on the roof or an outside wall instead of inside the hood, so the motor noise stays outdoors while the hood in the kitchen does the capturing. It connects to the hood through 10 in. round metal duct and a rough-in plate included in the kit.

Viking built it only for its own large hoods: VBCV, VCWH, VWH, TVWH and VCIH wall and island hoods 42 to 66 in. wide, and VDD downdraft ventilators 30 to 48 in. wide. It is not a universal blower, so confirm the hood model before ordering.

  • Required: a compatible Viking hood or VDD downdraft ventilator, sold separately
  • Required: 10 in. round metal duct and elbows, roof or wall flashing, and a 120V circuit run by a licensed electrician

Installation Notes

Mount the blower on the rear slope of the roof or on an outside wall, as close to the hood as possible with the fewest elbows, and run 10 in. round steel duct to the hood. On a flat roof, build a curb that sets the blower at a 2/12 minimum pitch with the discharge facing away from prevailing winds. Wiring must be done by a qualified electrician to code, and make-up air may be needed so other fuel-burning appliances do not backdraft. In New York City, roof and exterior wall penetrations on multifamily buildings usually need building approval, so plan this with the building first. Book a design consultation to plan the hood, duct run and blower location.
