The 48-Inch Chat Fire Bowl is the largest vessel in the American Fyre Designs chat-height series: a four-foot round of glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) with a 12-inch stainless steel star burner at the center and a 12-inch ledge for drinks and plates. It is sized for a big lounge group or sectional where a smaller bowl would look lost. The propane version hides a horizontal 20 lb cylinder in a drawer under the bowl, so you get a clean, gas-line-free install, and the included flush GFRC cover turns it into a table when the fire is off.

What Is Included and What You Will Need

  • Included: fire bowl in your selected finish, 12" stainless star burner and valve system, flush GFRC burner cover, bag of lava granules for the required base layer
  • Natural gas: a dedicated gas line with shutoff, sized for up to 65,000 BTU, run by a licensed plumber (5" to 10.5" w.c. inlet pressure)
  • Propane: one horizontal DOT 20 lb cylinder (not included); a standard upright grill tank will not fit the drawer
  • FyreStarter models: a 120V, 15 amp minimum, GFCI-protected weatherproof in-use outlet at the unit
  • Decorative media (recommended 20 lbs of glass or gems, or 10 lbs of lava): Fyre Glass, Reflective Fyre Glass, Fyre Gems or Diamond Nuggets
  • Optional: vinyl protective cover (8135A) for the off season

Installation Notes

This is an outdoor-only decorative gas appliance. Set it on a hard, level surface, keep 3 ft of side clearance to any construction and do not place it under overhead construction less than 6 ft above the top of the bowl. Natural gas models connect to fixed piping that must be installed and leak-tested by a qualified installer; in New York City that means a licensed master plumber working under permit, and rooftop or terrace locations may need building approval. Propane models connect to the cylinder in the drawer as shown in the manual. It ships LTL freight at 400 lbs. Frequently Asked Questions

Does the propane version need a gas line?

No. A horizontal DOT 20 lb propane cylinder sits in the drawer under the bowl. The cylinder is not included, and the manual notes that 11 lb low profile tanks are not compatible with this model.

What is the difference between the two burner options?

The Manual Flame Sensing version lights with a battery igniter and is rated 60,000 BTU. The FyreStarter version adds electronic ignition, Bluetooth control from your phone and a USB charging outlet, is rated 65,000 BTU, and needs a 120V GFCI outlet at the unit.

Can I use the bowl as a table?

Yes. The flush GFRC cover is included and sits over the burner when the fire is off, giving you a 48-inch round surface at chat height.

Warranty

American Fyre Designs by R.H. Peterson Co. warrants the GFRC fire feature and burner for three years and all valves, electrical components, accessories and controls for one year (batteries, wind guards and screens excluded) from the date of purchase. Coverage is for the original purchaser with proof of purchase, excludes labor, and does not cover damage from burning wood or any fuel other than natural gas or propane, or damage or discoloration from use in high wind.
