The American Fyre Designs Marseille 40 in. fire bowl pairs a gas flame with a built-in water spout in a bowl cast from handcrafted glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC). It sits low at 11 in. tall and can go on the ground or on an optional AFD pedestal.

This listing is the M6 manual flame sensing control model (series 752) with a 16 in. star burner, rated by American Fyre Designs at 65,000 BTU on natural gas or propane. Choose Smoke, Cafe Blanco or Black Lava and your fuel above. Water supply plumbing for the spout is supplied locally.

What Is Included and What You Will Need

  • Required: a gas line with a shutoff valve within 6 ft, or a propane cylinder in a separate vented enclosure, plus a water supply line for the spout, installed locally

Installation Notes

Place the Marseille on a hard, level surface with at least 3 ft to any construction at the sides and 6 ft above; it must not go under overhead construction less than 6 ft above the top of the unit. Bring the gas supply up from beneath the bowl near its center and fit an accessible shutoff valve within 6 ft. Inlet gas pressure must be 5 to 10.5 in. w.c. on natural gas or 11 to 13 in. w.c. on propane, and the spout needs a water supply between 7 and 80 psi, with a shutoff valve recommended. If you use a propane cylinder, it must sit in a separate enclosure with the venting and drainage shown in the manual, such as an AFD tank table. AFD requires installation by a qualified professional. For New York City addresses, outdoor gas fire features and their gas piping fall under the NYC Fuel Gas Code and Department of Buildings permitting, and propane at residences is restricted by the NYC Fire Code, so confirm the approval path before you buy. Does the water spout need plumbing?

Yes. The spout needs a locally supplied water line with 7 to 80 psi inlet pressure; AFD recommends a water shutoff valve.

Can a propane tank go inside the bowl?

No. Use natural gas, a hard line propane supply, or a cylinder in a separate vented enclosure such as an AFD tank holder.

How much fire media does it take?

The lava granules are included. If you prefer glass, AFD recommends about 80 lb for the 40 in. Marseille, or 40 lb of lava.

How much clearance does it need?

At least 3 ft to construction at the sides and 6 ft above the unit.

What colors are available?

Smoke, Cafe Blanco and Black Lava, shown as options above.

Warranty

American Fyre Designs limited warranty from R.H. Peterson Co., per the installation manual: GFRC fire features, fire bowls and burners are warranted for 3 years, and electrical components, valves, accessories and controls (excluding batteries, wind guards and screens) for 1 year. Coverage is for the original purchaser in single family residential use in the United States or Canada, starts on the purchase date, requires proof of purchase and professional installation, and does not cover labor. It does not apply to rust, corrosion, oxidation or discoloration unless the affected part becomes inoperable, to damage from burning wood or other fuels, or to damage or discoloration from use in high wind.
