The Orion V2 Traditional puts Modern Flames' second-generation LCD flame into a classic firebox proportion, in five sizes from 26 to 54 inches. It is the Orion for homeowners who want to retire an old wood-burning fireplace or frame a traditional opening without running gas or venting: it slides into an existing masonry firebox, or builds in clean-face in new framing. The realism is what you pay for, with adaptive-brightness LCD flames, a real split-wood log set and an active ember bed that hold up even close to the glass.

What Is Included and What You Will Need

  • Included: fireplace, remote control, lit log set, crushed glass media, power cover and grommet, installation screws and screw covers, glass suction cups.
  • Size: choose 26, 30, 36, 42 or 54 inch above.
  • Optional TruWood Premium Timber Kit: selecting "With TruWood" adds the size-matched TruWood Premium Large Timber Kit.
  • Optional surrounds for retrofits where the existing opening is larger than the unit (26, 30 and 36 in. only): 26 in. small, 26 in. large, 30 in. small, 30 in. large, 36 in. small, 36 in. large.
  • You will need: an outlet installed in the back or side of the existing firebox (or a hardwire connection), a dedicated 20 amp breaker, and a 240V 2-pole circuit if you want the higher heat setting on the 36, 42 or 54.

Installation Notes

For a retrofit, the existing firebox must be cleared of debris and be at least as large as the opening sizes above with 10 in. of depth, and power must be brought into the back or side of the firebox. Keep furniture, drapes and other combustibles at least 36 in. from the front. The 240V option is wired by a qualified electrician to a dedicated 220 to 240V, 20 amp circuit. This model is not approved for outdoor use. If you are converting an old New York City wood-burning fireplace, a site visit tells you quickly whether the opening, hearth and power will work. Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Orion V2 Traditional go into my existing wood-burning fireplace?

Yes, if the firebox meets the minimum opening for your size and has at least 10 in. of depth. An outlet must be installed inside the firebox, and a surround is available for the 26, 30 and 36 in. sizes to cover a larger opening.

Which size gives the most heat?

The 36, 42 and 54 in. models produce 5,000 BTU on 120V and 8,300 BTU when wired for 240V. The 26 and 30 in. models are 120V only at 5,000 BTU.

Can it be installed outdoors?

No. The Traditional is indoor only. For covered outdoor use, look at the Orion V2 Slim.

Does it need a dedicated circuit?

Yes, a dedicated 20 amp breaker, and a 2-pole 20 amp circuit for the 240V option.

Warranty

Modern Flames limited warranty: 5 years from the date of purchase when the product is registered with Modern Flames, or the standard 2 years if it is not registered. If the product has an integrated screen, the screen is covered for 1 year. A labor credit of up to $100 for one service is available in the first year. Coverage applies only to products bought through an authorized Modern Flames dealer, is not transferable, and does not extend to consumable service parts. Indoor installation only.
