The Bromic Tungsten 300 Smart-Heat Gas is a 26,000 BTU infrared heater that mounts on a wall or ceiling to warm about 160 sq ft of a covered patio, pergola or restaurant terrace. A matte black honeycomb mesh face and a pivot-arm bracket put the heat where people sit, and its electronic ignition relights automatically, so it can run from a wall switch or a Bromic Affinity controller.

Installation Notes

The Tungsten Smart-Heat Gas is for outdoor areas only and must not be installed in indoor residential locations. Bromic allows it in the open air or in a partial enclosure with an overhead cover and no more than two walls, with natural ventilation so combustion products disperse. Keep it out of direct rain and away from gas cylinders and combustible materials.

Mount it at least 8 ft above the ground with 3 ft to combustibles at the sides and 3 ft above (14 in with the Bromic heat shield). Installation must follow local codes or, in their absence, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 or CSA B149.1, plus ANSI/NFPA 70 for the 110V wiring.

In New York City, a fixed gas line to an outdoor heater requires a licensed master plumber and a DOB permit, and FDNY restricts propane cylinders on balconies, terraces and rooftops, so most NYC installations use natural gas.

How much area does it heat?

Bromic rates the Tungsten 300 at about 160 sq ft in ideal conditions. For larger spaces, step up to the 43,000 BTU Tungsten 500 or use several heaters.

Can I use it under a roof?

Yes, within limits. Bromic allows a partial enclosure with an overhead cover and no more than two walls, with the clearances listed above. It is not for indoor residential use.

Does it need electricity?

Yes. A 110V supply (under 2 A) runs the electronic ignition and controls.

Natural gas or propane?

Choose the model that matches your supply. In NYC, natural gas is usually the practical choice because propane cylinders are restricted on terraces and rooftops.
