The Dimplex Vital Spark SPK28 is a 28 in built-in electric firebox with molded logs and a glowing ember bed that recreates a wood fire, for a framed wall, mantel or an existing fireplace opening. It can be hardwired or plugged in with the included plug kit, offers 13 flame colors and ember color themes, and adds fan-forced heat with a thermostat for year-round comfort.

What Is Included and What You Will Need
- Dimplex SPK28 Vital Spark firebox with logs, ember bed, remote control and plug kit
- You will need: a framed opening or existing fireplace at least the minimum opening size, and a 120 V, 15 A circuit (dedicated preferred) or a licensed electrician for a hardwired connection

Installation Notes
Frame or prepare an opening at least the minimum size above, seal drafts and vents if it is an existing fireplace, then set the firebox flush with the front face of the opening and secure it to the framing with screws. Hardwire with a 15 A, 120 V supply and an SPST switch where required, or use the included plug kit; Dimplex prefers a dedicated circuit.
In New York City, a plug-in electric fireplace needs no gas line, venting or permit, which is why it suits apartments; a hardwired connection or a new circuit should be done by a licensed electrician.

What size opening do I need?
At least 26-1/2 in wide, 23 in high and 9 in deep for the SPK28, per the Dimplex manual.
Can it plug into an outlet?
Yes. It can be hardwired or plugged in with the included plug kit on a 120 V, 15 A circuit.
Can I use the flames without heat?
Yes. The flame effect and the heater are controlled separately.
