The Modern Flames Challenger 60 (CEF-60B) is a 60 in. linear electric fireplace that hangs on the wall, recesses partway or sets fully flush into a framed opening only 5-1/2 in. deep. It gives a long, contemporary flame line with real supplemental heat and no gas or venting.

Ten flame and ember bed colors, five brightness levels and a 1,500 W heater are run from the touch panel on the front or the included remote. Glacier crystals come as the standard media, and the unit plugs into a dedicated 15 A outlet or can be hardwired.

Installation Notes

For a recessed install, frame a 47-1/4 x 20-3/4 x 5-1/2 in. opening in a non-load-bearing wall and keep 11-13/16 in. from the glass to any mantel or ceiling; for wall mounting, screw the bracket into studs where possible. Keep the unit at least 36 in. from drapes and furniture. Electric fireplaces need no gas line or venting, which makes them one of the simplest fireplace options for New York City apartments and co-ops, subject to building and board approval for any electrical work. Book a design consultation to plan the wall, power and finish.

Warranty

Modern Flames limited warranty (2022-2023 policy), which covers all Modern Flames brand products bought from authorized dealers: 5 years from the date of purchase when the owner registers the product at modernflames.com, otherwise the standard 2 years; integrated screens 1 year. The warranty is not transferable, consumable and normal wear parts are excluded, and Modern Flames must be contacted first to troubleshoot before service.
