The Superior VRL6048 is a 48 inch linear vent-free gas fireplace with a clean-faced front, a ProFlame II remote and an oxygen depletion sensing pilot. It needs no chimney or vent pipe, which makes it a lower-cost way to add a long flame to a feature wall, in locations where local code allows vent-free gas appliances.
Vent-free gas appliances cannot be installed in New York City under the NYC Fuel Gas Code. We sell this model for installations outside the five boroughs where local code allows it.

What Is Included and What You Will Need
- Included per the manual: fireplace with burner draft shield glass, platinum glass media, ProFlame II remote with four AA batteries, non-combustible fireboard top, bottom and sides with 28 screws, standoffs and a literature kit.
- Required: a gas line and a grounded, unswitched 120 VAC supply to the junction box, framing of 2x4 or larger members, and enough fresh air for the room (see below).
- Optional: HeatFlo kit, see-thru kit and hot-air blower. The manual lists the blower as optional, while the current listing describes a factory blower, so confirm before ordering.
Installation Notes
The manual does not allow installation in a bedroom, bathroom or recreational vehicle. A space under 50 cubic feet per 1,000 BTU/h is confined and needs additional fresh air through two permanent openings, one within 12 inches of the ceiling and one within 12 inches of the floor. The pilot shuts off if fresh air is insufficient, and operation above 4,500 ft can cause pilot outage. Vent-free gas appliances cannot be installed in New York City under the NYC Fuel Gas Code. We sell this model for installations outside the five boroughs where local code allows it. Gas work must be done by a licensed installer. Can the VRL6048 be installed in New York City?

Where is it not allowed?
The manual prohibits installation in a bedroom, bathroom or recreational vehicle. Check your local code as well.
Does it need a vent?
No. It is vent-free, with an oxygen depletion sensing pilot. The room must still have enough fresh air under the manual's confined-space rule.
Can I put a TV above it?
The manual allows a TV installation with a minimum 6 inch mantel at 12 inches. The HeatFlo kit directs heat above the fireplace, and the TV maker's temperature limit still applies.

Warranty
Per the installation manual: 20-year limited warranty on the product body, firebox and barrier. The burner, gas components, gaskets, optional blowers and remote controls are covered for 1 year, optional glass doors for 90 days, and labor at prevailing rates for up to five years.
