What Is Included and What You Will Need

  • Included: one 50 lb bag of rolled lava rock, per current listing
  • Required with any CROSSFIRE burner: fire rated media over the burner (manual)
  • Sold separately: burner, plate or pan

Installation Notes

Per the June 2026 manual, use only fire rated media, place it on the plate or pan rather than dumping it over the burner, cover the jets by no more than 1/2 in., and do not bury the ignition pilot assembly more than halfway. Never use gravel or river rock. In New York City, outdoor gas fire features need NYC Fuel Gas Code and DOB approval, and residential propane is restricted by the NYC Fire Code.

How much do I need?

Enough to cover the burner up to, but not more than, 1/2 in. above the jets; tell us the pan size and we will estimate bags.

Can I use river rock instead?

No. The manual warns that non-porous media such as gravel, pebbles or river rock can trap moisture and fracture or explode when heated.
