What Is Included and What You Will Need

Installation Notes

No household electricity is needed to run the gas system; a 115V, 60 Hz receptacle (less than 12 amps) is needed only for an optional blower. The unit must be framed to the published framing dimensions with a minimum 50 in. inside enclosure height left unobstructed, and the vent pipe needs 3 in. to combustibles above it inside the enclosure. Mantel heights and depths follow the combustible mantel chart in the manual. Installation must be done by a qualified, licensed gas installer. In New York City, direct vent gas fireplaces are installed under the NYC Fuel Gas Code with a licensed plumber and DOB filing where required; termination location is often the deciding factor in apartments and townhouses. Our team can confirm venting and permitting during a fireplace consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the see-thru and peninsula versions?

The see-thru (BHD4ST) has glass on the front and back and is 45 in. wide. The peninsula (BHD4P) adds a glass end for three viewing sides and is 43-1/4 in. wide. Both are 38-1/4 in. tall and 25-1/8 in. deep.

Is the Ascent Multi-View meant to heat a room?

Napoleon certifies the BHD4 as a vented decorative gas appliance (ANSI Z21.50), and the manual describes it as a decorative product rather than a heat source. It is rated 30,000 BTU/h input and 23,000 BTU/h output, so it does add warmth, but it should not be sized as primary heat.

Will it work during a power outage?

Yes. The gas system needs no household power and the ignition has battery backup. Power is only needed for an optional blower.

Can I switch between glass and logs later?

The glass and log versions are separate model numbers with different burner configurations, so choose the media style at purchase. Glass models can add MIRRO-FLAME panels; log models can add Newport brick panels.
