Graphite Grate Series ethanol fireplaces use different burner models by size: Grate 18 has a round AB8 burner; Grate 30 and 36 have linear XL500 and XL700 burners. Heat output, burn time, minimum room volume and fireplace opening requirements differ; compare the specifications before choosing.

The EcoSmart Fire Grate 18 turns a small, disused wood-burning fireplace into a clean-burning bioethanol fire in minutes. A graphite Fluid Concrete grate holds an 8 litre AB8 burner, so there is no smoke, soot or ash to deal with, no gas line and no electricity, and you can run it with or without a working chimney.

Optional Accessories

Installation Notes

Install the grate on a level, non-combustible platform. If the fireplace had a gas line, it must be disconnected and made safe by a licensed professional before installation. EcoSmart recommends closing the damper or blocking the chimney with a metal plate to keep heat in the room, and the room must be at least 4,096 cu ft per burner with good ventilation and no strong drafts.

Use e-NRG bioethanol only, never refuel a burner that is lit or still hot, and keep the flame at least 59.1 in from curtains and other flammables.

Ethanol burners need no chimney, gas line or electricity, but they are open-flame appliances: many New York City co-op and condo boards restrict them, and fuel storage in multifamily buildings is limited, so confirm your building rules before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a working chimney?

No. Bioethanol produces no smoke, so the grate works with or without an operational chimney; EcoSmart recommends closing the damper to keep heat in.

How long does a fill last?

About 7 to 9 hours on the 8 litre AB8 burner, or 9 to 11 hours with the efficiency ring fitted.

What fuel does it use?

e-NRG bioethanol only.

Can it go outside?

EcoSmart lists the Grate 18 for indoor use.

Warranty

EcoSmart Fire products carry a transferable limited warranty. The EcoSmart burner manual lists 2 years on stainless steel parts, including the burner, and 1 year on mild steel, powder-coated and concrete (cement) components and glass; chips, scratches and natural variation in Fluid Concrete are not covered. Register the product with EcoSmart to activate the warranty.
