Graphite Grate Series ethanol fireplaces use different burner models by size: Grate 18 has a round AB8 burner; Grate 30 and 36 have linear XL500 and XL700 burners. Heat output, burn time, minimum room volume and fireplace opening requirements differ; compare the specifications before choosing.

The EcoSmart Fire Grate 30 is the compact model in EcoSmart's Grate Series, a graphite Fluid Concrete grate with a built-in XL500 bioethanol burner that turns a smaller unused wood-burning fireplace into a clean-burning one. Set it on a level platform in the firebox, fill it with e-NRG bioethanol and light it: there is no gas line, electrical connection, smoke or carbon residue. Because it burns without smoke, it can be used with or without a working chimney, and EcoSmart recommends closing the damper or blocking the flue to keep heat in the room.

What Is Included and What You Will Need

  • Required: e-NRG bioethanol fuel and a level platform in a fireplace that meets the minimum firebox size
  • If the fireplace has a gas line, it must be disconnected and made safe by a qualified, licensed professional before installation

Installation Notes

EcoSmart states the grate should be installed only after any gas connections or pipe lines have been disconnected and made safe by a licensed professional. Use it only in a well-ventilated room of at least 2,825 cu ft that is protected from cross drafts, and let the burner cool for 60 minutes after shutting it off before refueling. Closing the damper or plating the flue keeps more heat in the room. In New York City, any gas disconnection must be done by a licensed master plumber. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a working chimney?

No. Bioethanol burns without smoke, so the grate can be used with or without an operational chimney. EcoSmart recommends sealing the chimney to save heat.

Will it fit my fireplace?

The XL500 burner manual calls for a firebox at least 31.5 in wide, 13.8 in deep and 19.7 in high.

How long does a fill last?

About 10 to 13 hours from the 5 L burner.

Can it be used outdoors?

EcoSmart lists the Grate 30 for indoor application.

Warranty

Per the EcoSmart operations and burner manual, the transferable limited warranty is two years from purchase on stainless steel parts, including black ceramic coated, and one year on mild steel, cement, glass, leather, fabric, teak and MDF. Chips, scratches and non-structural hairline cracks in Fluid Concrete are not covered.
