The Legend Rectangle (series 581) is the low, coffee-table-height firetable in the American Fyre Designs line: a 60 by 36 inch piece of glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) with a long linear flame down the center. It is sized for a deep sectional or two sofas facing each other, where a round bowl would leave the ends of the group cold. Seven hand-applied finishes, including the antique Travertine and Basalt tones, let it sit naturally beside stone paving and coping.

  • Natural gas: a dedicated gas line with shutoff valve, 5" to 10.5" w.c. inlet pressure, run by a licensed plumber
  • Propane: one 20 lb DOT cylinder (not included) in a separate ventilated enclosure, such as the AFD Contempo Tank/End Table; propane Legend models include the 5110-26 10 ft LP extension hose
  • FyreStarter models: a 120VAC, 15 amp minimum, GFCI-protected weatherproof in-use receptacle
  • Decorative media (25 lbs of glass or gems, or 10 lbs of lava, over the base granules): Fyre Glass, Reflective Fyre Glass, Fyre Gems or Diamond Nuggets
  • Optional: GFRC burner cover (8115-xx Iron Saddle / Legend size), vinyl protective cover (8152A) and tempered glass wind guard (8211-WG)

Installation Notes

This is an outdoor-only decorative gas appliance. Set it on a hard, level surface with 3 ft of side clearance to any construction, and keep at least 6 ft between the top of the table and any overhead structure such as a pergola or awning. Natural gas models connect to fixed piping that must be installed and leak-tested by a qualified installer; in New York City that means a licensed master plumber working under permit, and rooftop or terrace locations may need building approval. Propane models run from a cylinder in a separate enclosure with at least 6 inches of side clearance. FyreStarter models need a GFCI weatherproof outlet within cord reach. Frequently Asked Questions

Can the propane tank go inside the Legend?

No. The Legend Rectangle does not house a cylinder. Propane models connect to a 20 lb tank in a separate ventilated enclosure, and the 10 ft extension hose is included with the propane version.

What is the difference between the two burner options?

Manual Flame Sensing lights with a battery igniter and runs at 65,000 BTU with variable flame height. FyreStarter adds electronic ignition, Bluetooth control from your phone, a true high (75,000 BTU) and low (32,000 BTU) setting and USB charging, and it needs a 120V GFCI outlet.

Does it come with a cover?

No. The finish-matched GFRC burner cover (8115-xx) closes the burner opening and turns the Legend into a usable coffee table; the vinyl cover (8152A) wraps the whole unit for winter. Many owners keep both.

How much fire glass do I need?

American Fyre Designs recommends 25 lbs of glass or gems, or 10 lbs of lava, on top of the included lava granule base layer.

Warranty

American Fyre Designs by R.H. Peterson Co. warrants the GFRC fire feature and burner for three years and all electrical components, valves, accessories and controls for one year (batteries, wind guards and screens excluded) from the date of purchase. Coverage is for the original purchaser with proof of purchase, excludes labor, and does not cover damage from burning wood or any fuel other than natural gas or propane, or damage or discoloration from use in high wind.
