The Superior WRT8048 is a 48 inch open-hearth, front-view wood-burning fireplace with a 48" wide by 42" tall opening. It ships as a box only and needs a Mosaic Masonry brick liner to finish the firebox. It is for builders and homeowners planning a masonry-look wood fireplace in a framed chase, with a fully insulated firebox and a flush hearth floor design.

What Is Included and What You Will Need
- Included: the WRT8048 firebox, steel grate with andirons and mesh screens, per the current listing
- Required: a Mosaic Masonry brick liner kit. We offer Midnight, Slate Grey, Warm Red and Ivory split herringbone kits.
- Required: an IHP 12" wood-burning chimney system and termination, plus a hearth spacer when installing over a combustible floor
- Recommended: outside air kits, such as the Superior 4 inch Air Kit with Collar, Hood and 3 foot Flex (AK4)
- Optional: a black-trim glass door and a gas log set
Installation Notes
The WRT8048 is installed in a framed chase with a manufactured chimney. Keep the firebox, hearth and chimney clearances from the spec sheet and manual, with at least 48 inches of clear space in front and no combustible material on the front face except for mantels. Heights from the base of the fireplace to the chimney outlet must stay within 16 to 50 feet. Frequently Asked Questions
Does it come with firebrick?
No. The WRT8048 is a box only and requires a Mosaic Masonry brick liner, sold separately. Four split herringbone colors are available.
What chimney does it use?
IHP 12DM standard or 12HT hi-temp wood-burning chimney. The minimum height is 16 feet for a straight run or one elbow set and 22 feet for two sets.
Can I burn gas logs in it?
The manual approves vented gas logs to ANSI Z21.60 or Z21.84 and vent-free logs to ANSI Z21.11.2, subject to local code. Vent-free gas appliances cannot be installed in New York City under the NYC Fuel Gas Code. We sell this model for installations outside the five boroughs where local code allows it.
Do I need a hearth spacer?
Yes on combustible floors. The spec sheet calls for a hearth spacer and a 72 inch by 20 inch hearth extension.
