Required Crushed Glass: Complete 60-Inch Outdoor Fireplace Package

RMI 2026–2027 catalog requirement: This 60-inch single-sided Empire Carol Rose outdoor fireplace requires 10 bags of approved 3-lb crushed-glass media to complete the burner installation (total 30 lb). Select the compatible Bronze DG1BZR, Copper DG1BCR or Clear Frost DG1CLF glass. Black Polished DG1BKP and Blue Clear DG1BUC are accent only and cannot substitute for the required base media. Decorative glass drops are also accent pieces only.

Standard fireplace package: burner, three-stage manual flame control, preprogrammed multicolor LED under-burner lighting, push-button battery ignition, and standard weather deflector glass. Additional cost: required crushed glass is separately selected. A see-through configuration may require two matching weather doors if optional weather doors are ordered.

Check the selected configuration and accessory count before checkout; some Shopify options bundle the 10 required glass bags into one priced option.

The Carol Rose 60" Single-Sided is an outdoor-rated vent-free linear gas fireplace from Empire Comfort Systems, framed into an outdoor wall so only the 60-inch flame and its glass face show. It suits a covered patio, porch or outdoor kitchen wall where a chimney is not an option, with stainless steel exterior surfaces for the weather and no flue to build. Clear Frost crushed glass, seven-color LED lighting under the burner and a 65,000 BTU input give a clean, modern look at a size that reads from across the yard.

What Is Included and What You Will Need

Installation Notes

This is an outdoor vent-free appliance listed to ANSI Z21.97 for outdoor gas fireplaces; it must never be installed indoors, in a garage or in any enclosed area. Typical locations are a covered patio, open porch, gazebo or an outside house wall with at least 96 sq ft of floor area and a 90" ceiling. Partial enclosures are allowed only as the manual describes: walls on all sides with no roof, a roof with no more than two side walls, or a roof with three walls and at least 30% of the perimeter permanently open. Never operate it with the weather door in place. For New York City addresses, outdoor gas fireplaces and their piping fall under the NYC Fuel Gas Code and Department of Buildings permitting, so the approval path for this vent-free unit must be confirmed before you buy; we review that, along with Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey sites, during a design consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this fireplace be installed in New York City?

It is certified for outdoor use only, and any NYC installation of an outdoor gas fireplace must clear the NYC Fuel Gas Code and Department of Buildings process. Confirm the approval path for your property with us and a licensed master plumber before ordering.

Does it come with the glass?

Only if you choose a glass option above. The fireplace needs 10 sq ft of crushed glass; choose "No Thanks" only if you already have it.

Is there a remote?

No. The linear series uses a manual valve with push-button spark ignition. An E-Stop gas timer can be added to shut the gas off automatically after a set time.

Warranty

Per the Empire Comfort Systems installation manual, the fireplace carries a limited five-year parts warranty on all components except remote controls, thermostats, accessories and replacement parts, which carry a limited one-year parts warranty. Coverage is for the original purchaser, is not transferable, and does not include labor, travel, diagnostics, freight or removal and reinstallation. Warranty service is handled through the installing dealer by a qualified gas appliance technician.
