Required Crushed Glass: Complete 48-Inch Outdoor Fireplace Package
RMI 2026–2027 catalog requirement: This 48-inch single-sided Empire Carol Rose outdoor fireplace requires 8 bags of approved 3-lb crushed-glass media to complete the burner installation (total 24 lb). Select the compatible Bronze DG1BZR, Copper DG1BCR or Clear Frost DG1CLF glass. Black Polished DG1BKP and Blue Clear DG1BUC are accent only and cannot substitute for the required base media. Decorative glass drops are also accent pieces only.
Standard fireplace package: burner, three-stage manual flame control, preprogrammed multicolor LED under-burner lighting, push-button battery ignition, and standard weather deflector glass. Additional cost: required crushed glass is separately selected. A see-through configuration may require two matching weather doors if optional weather doors are ordered.

The Carol Rose 48" Single-Sided is an outdoor-rated vent-free linear gas fireplace from Empire Comfort Systems, set flush into a wall with one 48-inch ribbon of flame. It is for a covered patio or outdoor room where you want a modern fireplace with no chimney or flue to build. A stainless steel exterior, a 55,000 BTU burner with three input settings and a bed of crushed glass make it a clean centerpiece.

Installation Notes
This is an outdoor vent-free appliance and must never be installed indoors, in a garage or in any enclosed area. Keep the clearances above, run a 1/2" gas line, and have a licensed professional handle gas and electrical work. Vent-free gas appliances cannot be installed in New York City under the NYC Fuel Gas Code. We sell this model for installations outside the five boroughs where local code allows it. Frequently Asked Questions
Does it come with the glass?
Only if you choose a glass option above. The fireplace needs about 8 sq. ft. of crushed glass; choose No Thanks only if you already have it.
Is it vent-free safe outdoors?
It is certified to ANSI Z21.97 for outdoor gas fireplaces and is for outdoor use only. It must not be installed in an enclosed area.
Natural gas or propane?
Both are offered on separate part numbers, and both are rated 55,000 BTU maximum. Conversion kits are listed in the manual and should be installed by a qualified technician.
Does it have a remote?
No. Empire does not offer a remote for the linear series; the unit uses a spark igniter and manual controls.

Warranty
Per the Empire Comfort Systems manual: five year limited parts warranty on all components, and one year limited parts warranty on remote controls, thermostats, accessories and replacement parts. Coverage is for the original purchaser only and excludes freight, diagnostics and damage from misuse, improper installation or lack of maintenance.
